CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Pre-Juniors (Ballet/Tap Combo Class) – This class is a basic introduction to dance through creative movement, coordination exercises and motor skills. Basic ballet and tap terminology are introduced and constantly used. Dance games are used to develop the student’s sense of rhythm, patterns and timing. This class is one hour long and includes both ballet and tap lessons.
Classes for Ages 7 and up:
Ballet – These classes utilize ballet techniques, terminology, fluidity, presentation, stretch and flexibility. The focus is on healthful exercise and proper technique through the joy of dancing. Classes are divided according to ability and age, and students are placed in these classes accordingly.
Jazz and Tap – These classes focus on isolations, rhythmic movements and across the floor and center combination designed to develop strength and flexibility. A variety of jazz and tap styles are explored in these classes.
Hip-Hop (Ages 11 and up) – This class uses contemporary and older Hip-Hop music to explore the variety of dance style trends in the past and present. Exercises are designed to strengthen and broaden the dancers’ abilities. New combinations are taught every few weeks.
Acting for Stage and Film (Ages 7 and up) – Students will explore the world acting in theater and film by use of the Meisner technique through a variety of fun activities and exercises geared to stimulate their creativity and growth as actors. Some of these activities include filming of 30-second commercials and voice-overs, short scene studies, improvisation, and cold-script readings. Several working actors will visit the class during the year to give the students insight to being a working actor on stage and in film. Each student will take an 8X10 at the beginning of the season as a part of his/her performance resume. Students will incorporate what they have learned into showcases and Holiday and Spring shows during the year.
Voice for Stage and Film (Ages 7 and up) – This class, geared for all levels, provides voice lessons to our students in a group setting. Students will learn techniques including proper breathing, warm-ups, intonation and pitch. Students will sing from repetoire ranging from pop music to musical theater. Students will have an opportunity to sing by solo and within small groups. Students will incorporate what they have learned into showcases and Holiday and Spring shows during the year.
